Winter Enchanted: A West End Christmas Show Chester Theatre reviews
Depeche Mode puts on a great show
The new album, in my opinion, didn't blend as seamlessly with the standards as the last tour, so it wasn't as strong as Playing the Angel. Although the show wasn't as strong as the AAC show in the Playing the Angel tour, it was still good. There wasn't much from the early days which left me feeling a bit let down. The "standards" were relied heavily on the period from Music for the Masses to Songs of Faith and Devotion. For the encore, I was hoping they would close with "everything counts" but no dice.
Dave is awesome, he puts so much energy into the performance, and unlike many artists with their longevity, you don't get that "phoned-in" feeling. With that said, it was still a great show.
Do not take your small children to this show, however. It is LOUD. Get a sitter, leave the kids at home and go party like it's 1995 without them. The people in front of us had a kid with them that looked to be around 5. You could tell he was exhausted and bored about halfway through. The poor child's earplugs kept falling out, he couldn't see, he was subjected to some shirtless/leather belt dancing from his paternal unit that may well scar him for life (I'm scarred) and also the marijuana fumes from the people sitting immediately right of their parents.
